The Government recently made new announcements regarding the latest Covid-19 rules and a new roadmap plan for Scotland and Wales. Let’s have a look at what the latest announcements state.
Scotland – from 15 March
First Minister of Scotland and Leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP), Nicola Sturgeon, announced that from 15 March new regulations will be put in effect.
- Primary students will go back to school full-time with secondary school children having a mix of face-to-face and online lessons.
- Four adults from two households can now meet in outside spaces, including private gardens.
- Young people aged 12-17 can meet up in groups of four, without being limited to two households.
- Non-contact outdoor sport can resume for adults in groups of up to 15 people.
Eased lockdown will start from the last week in April and lifting measures will be staggered every three weeks (which is two weeks faster than in England).
- Non-essential retail will open from 26 April 2021.
- The stay at home restriction will be lifted from 5 April 2021.
Scottish weddings
The different levels will dictate who can attend weddings.
- Level 0: no more than 50 people should attend
- Level 1, 2 or 3: no more than 20 people should attend
- Level 4: no more than 5 people (or 6, if an interpreter is required) and no wedding receptions

Wales – from 20 March
On Saturday, 20 March stay-at-home rules will be lifted and ‘staying local’ will be encouraged (within five-miles of travel).
First Minister Mark Drakeford says there will be a ‘phased approach’ out of lockdown.
- Four people from two households can exercise together from Saturday.
- Outdoor sporting facilities can reopen.
- Four people from two households can meet outdoors, including in private gardens.
- Families with babies can meet up with one other household and form a bubble.
- All primary pupils will return to school from Monday, 22 March.
- From 22 March hairdressers and barbers can reopen for appointments and non-essential aisles will reopen.
- Close contact shops will reopen from 12 April.
- There are no current plans to reopen hospitality, pubs, and restaurants.
- Indoor care home visits are permitted for a single visitor.
- Holidays in self-contained accommodation can open from 27 March.
Welsh weddings
Licensed wedding venues have reopened from 1 March but wedding receptions are still not allowed. The Welsh government has not given a date for when weddings can be allowed.
