On Monday, 6th of May all of the Hollywood and New York film, music, and art, and socialite elite came together to celebrate The Costume Institute Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. It’s the biggest fundraiser in the fashion calendar with the first event being held in 1948 as the brainchild of publicist Eleanor Lambert. It used to consist of only New York’s high society but in recent years many famous faces grace the carpet in many talked-about looks. The latest exhibition theme was Camp: Notes On Fashion. The theme was interpreted in many ways. Last year the Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination had religious iconography running wild, but this year the looks vary greatly. Let’s get into the top men’s fashions at the Met Gala.

Richard Madden

No stranger to our lists, actor Richard Madden wore a Bond-inspired double breasted suit with suave single-button fasten and silk, contrasting pointed lapels. He decided to tuck his ruffled trouser leg into his shiny black leather boots. He wears a black button-up shirt and tie with a safety pin detail on the lapel, completing the monochrome look.

Taron Egerton

The actor who is portraying Elton John in the upcoming Rocketman (and also recently discussed in one of our Graham Norton post), Taron Egerton wore an embellished black ribbon tie from Salvatore Ferragamo. His lapel seems to be a double-pointed lapel with subtle-yet-contrasting detailing and the black jacket itself is embellished with beading. He wears a simple white shirt, black tailored trousers, and black shiny, traditional leather shoes—but the complete look adds a little oomph.

Rami Malek

Wearing Saint Laurent, Rami Malek wrote a black velvet blazer, matching black velvet bow-tie, black trousers, and a metallic silver-black shirt with a pair of bold metallic red and black stripped boots. Rami seems to push the fashion envelope time and time again.

Benedict Cumberbatch

Popular Sherlock and Avengers: Endgame actor, Benedict Cumberbatch wore a breath-taking white suit look complete with tasselled cane and embellished loafers. He wore a round-lapelled single-breasted jacket with white tailored trousers. His double-breasted waistcoat sported a gold pocket-watch and chain and instead of a tie to finish his white shirt, he wore a scarf with tie pin. To top it all off (no pun intended), he wore a white hat. He and his wife made a dapper pair.

Baz Luhrmann

The Australian writer, director, and producer is known for his theatrics and his Met Gala outfit was no disappointment. He wrote an all blush-pink ensemble. His double breasted jacket was embellished with metallic detailing. He had a matching black stripe down his tailored trouser leg and he even wore pink suede boots. His crisp button up matched the hue of his shoes perfectly. He finished off the look with round black sunglasses and some ring accessories. His wife’s handbag embellishment matches his suit exactly! What a pair!
