The Woman in Red

At the August 9th premier of her new Netflix show Godless at the DGA Theatre in Los Angeles, the former Lady Mary, Michelle Dockery, 36, moves away from the 1920s flowing beaded dresses and steps out in a fashion-forward red tailored suit.

She wows at this premier for a show that has garnered 12 nominations at the 70th Annual Emmy nominations last month.

The dashing red suit has a distinct profile with buttons adorning the sleeves down to the cropped trousers. Paired with a contrasting black top and strappy pointed-toe stilettos this look certainly turned heads. She looks confident, comfortable, and fearless, allowing the suit to stand out whilst keeping her hair and makeup low-key and opting to go without jewellery and further adornment.

The Summer Palette

Chief Content Office for Hearst Magazines, author, and former editor in chief for Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan magazines Joanna Coles, 56, has set fashion trends alongside fellow fashionista Anna Wintour for decades. On Author’s Night at the East Hampton Library in New York on August 11th, one of the world’s top literary events, Coles, promoting her new book, Love Rules, opted for a tailored white jacket and blue button-up shirt combination, paired with casual jeans.

This menswear ensemble with its summer palette was paired with a delicate amber-coloured chain, which added a feminine touch to the outfit. The tortoiseshell buttons on the blazer added a touch of je ne sais quoi and attention to the little details, which is what good tailoring is all about.

Coles is no stranger to attending events in a tailored look. At the Outstanding Mother Awards in May, she opted for a bolder look, combining flat fronted navy trousers, a pair of black pointed-toe stilettos (must be the look of the season), a tailored jacket with two contrasting buttons with a floral embroidered detail in a beautiful deep pink, and the pièce de résistance, that paisley multi-coloured shirt with a tying detail at the neck.

Her look managed to be conservative yet stylish and elegant. Whilst at author’s night she opted for light makeup with the summery look of a white jacket, for the Outstanding Mother awards, she glammed up with a bright red lip, which contrasts wonderfully with her bold bleached blonde short hair.

A Touch of Royal Elegance

Our final look this week is from none other than HRH Megan, The Duchess of Sussex, 37. You may have seen her elegantly tailored Wimbledon look from July. She opted for a blue and white stripped menswear button-up shirt, loosely fitted with a stiff starched collar, and white bell-bottom trousers, fitted at the hips. She completed the look with black sun-glasses and a matching white straw hat trimmed in black.

Channelling Katherine Hepburn, the Duchess had tied back hair and light makeup, adorned only with her engagement ring and wedding band.

A tailored shirt can elevate any look from a suit to casual jeans to fitted trousers or skirts.
